Packing Artwork
Packing artwork is an art in itself. The stuff besides being very expensive is extremely sensitive and susceptible to damage in transit. You need to be extra careful when packing artwork
and moving fragiles
. The task requires practice and proper training and is best left to experts.
Things required for packing artwork at a glance: -
- Bubble wrap or Cardboard
- Newsprint
- Boxes
- Tape
- Styrofoam peanuts
Each individual piece of artwork should be wrapped in newsprint or you may use bubble wrap.
Place them in flat fitted boxes. If some space is left, fill it with some more newsprint or even Styrofoam peanuts.
Tape the box and give a suitable caption in bold letters.
While packing artwork consisting of mirror, make sure to put a tape in pattern of letter X on the front of the mirror. This would prevent the pieces from coming out in case the glass breaks in transit.
For packing sculptures, choose a box about one-third bigger in size than the sculpture. Fill in about one-third of the box with Styrofoam peanuts. Place the sculpture inside the box and even out the spaces around it with Styrofoam peanuts. Be careful that the sculpture does not touch any of the sides.
